Liverpool appear to be considering their options after having a £15 million bid for Stewart Downing rejected by Aston Villa.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool have enquired about the availability of Valencia and Spain Under 21 starlet Juan Mata.

With the news Wednesday morning that Villa are demanding £19 million for Downing, Mata might be a more fitting option for the Merseyside revolution at Anfield.

Valencia are believed to value Mata in the region of £20 million, and at just 23 years-old, would seem to be a more favourable option for Liverpool than the 27-year-old Downing.

Valencia have reportedly demanded £23 million for Mata when Arsenal declared an interest last week.

Mata won the bronze boot and was named in the All-Star Squad of the UEFA Under-21 European Championship. He also has 11 senior appearances for Spain, scoring four goals.
