Liverpool are on the verge of completing a deal for Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni according to the player's agent.

The Serie A stopper has long been on the Anfield radar, but a move looked to have broken down after Doni failed to agree terms with the Reds.

Kenny Dalglish is keen to strengthen his goalkeeping department, in a bid to provide competition for Spanish star Pepe Reina.

"In the next 36hours we will know something definite," Doni's agent, Ovidio Colucci told Press Association Sport.

"Liverpool are interested in Doni and there is the agreement between the two clubs and with the player.

"Doni is in Italy right now, we just have to ratify certain details with Roma," he continued.

Having already completed the signing of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for an initial £16million, Liverpool have today announced that the club has reached an agreement with Blackpool for the transfer of long-term target Charlie Adam.

As that deal edges ever closer with Adam expected at Anfield for a medical and to discuss terms, Doni could prove to be the third piece in the Liverpool jigsaw as Dalglish continues to build a squad capable of challenging for the title next year.

"If the deal is completed, Doni will join Liverpool on a free transfer and will sign a two-year contract.

"Doni is very happy with the chance to go to Liverpool and play in the Barclays Premier League."
