Manchester City are favourites to sign Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, according to the Daily Star, despite Chelsea being in the mix for the star.

Juventus are also said to be in the running for Aguero’s signature, but Manchester City are reportedly in advanced talks to bring the Argentinian to Eastlands as soon as this weekend.

Aguero is currently competing for Argentina alongside Carlos Tevez in the Copa America, and Roberto Mancini believes that if he brings the striker to Manchester City, Tevez will feel less homesick with the club.

Aguero has been rated at £35 million, and while Chelsea were hopeful of securing the star, City have moved in and insisted they will outbid any competitors.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea have been relatively quiet in the transfer window thus far, with the purchase of Gael Clichy the only significant coup between the two clubs.

But while it could seem as though the clubs will be relatively quiet this summer, pundits believe it may in fact be the calm before the storm, with both Chelsea and Manchester City set to spend some big bucks on players like Aguero.
