Arsenal have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners to sign Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

According to the Daily Star, the north London club are 'favourites' to land the Argentina international, who scored seven goals in Serie A last season.

Manchester City had also been pursuing the 26-year-old, but baulked at the £25 million valuation placed on his head by his employers.

It is alleged that Lavezzi's future could be decided within the next 24 hours, with Arsenal ready to formalise their interest in the former San Lorenzo forward.

The acquisition of more attack-minded options is thought to be a summer priority for Arsene Wenger, and pulling off a deal for Lavezzi could prove to be quite a coup for the Arsenal boss.

Arsenal also hope to complete the signing of Lille's Gervinho this week after the Ivorian underwent a medical with club on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old scored 15 times last season as Lille won the French title for the first time since 1954, and will move to Arsenal in a deal worth around £11.2 million.
