Brentford boss is wasting no time

Uwe Rosler has wasted no time in reinforcing his squad since his appointment as Brentford boss last month.

The former Manchester City striker has so far signed five players during his brief tenure at Griffin Park, including the capture of Niall McGinn on a season-long loan from Celtic.

Rosler also pulled off a coup to secure the signature of free agent Clayton Donaldson, who scored 29 goals in all competitions for Crewe last season.

And the Bees manager is happy with his transfer dealings so far, although he still has space in his squad for a couple of more new faces.

“In terms of our major signings, they are done. We did it early so we have time to integrate them into the team,” Rosler said.

“There is space for two or three more players to come in and we will be looking to get some loan deals set up.

“We do not need to sell anyone to bring anyone in, but if a bid comes in we will consider it. So far I’m not aware of any approaches.”

The west London club begin their pre-season schedule next week with a fixture against Blue Square Bet South side Tonbridge Angels, which will give Rosler the opportunity to run the rule over his new acquisitions, as well as the players he has inherited.

One of the latter is Kevin O’Connor - who captained the Bees under Andy Scott and then Nicky Forster - and Rosler has allayed fears he will depose the 29-year-old as skipper.

“We need to look at a number of different partnerships and formations to see how the players respond. Everyone will get their chance,” added Rosler.

“I have had very close dialogue with Kevin and he is a fantastic captain. Others will get their chance but that doesn’t mean I will automatically opt for someone new. I’m pretty relaxed about it.”
