Highly rated USA international Marc Pelosi has claimed that he has commanded interest from Liverpool ahead of a proposed transfer.

Pelosi is currently playing at the U17 World Cup in Mexico, but is said to be considering his options amidst reported interest from a number of Europe's biggest clubs.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has been busy in the transfer market this summer having already added the likes of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam to his Anfield squad.

It also emerged late last night that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of Stewart Downing who is expected in Merseyside for contract talks and a medical.

After making their intentions clear to ensure the long-term future of Liverpool football club is bright, the Reds are endeavouring to sign up the brightest young talent Europe has to offer.

But it appears that their scouting network stretches further afield after Pelosi's indication that he was the subject of an approach from Liverpool.

"What I'll do really depends, after the tournament," he confirmed. "College could still be a good option, but it depends on the offers that are coming in.

"Going pro is my first priority. We heard there was some strong interest from Liverpool, and Germany a few [other] places, so I'm just deciding where to go."
