A bid of £7 million ‘remains on the table’ for Mevlut Erdinc, according to the Daily Mirror, as the Paris Saint-Germain star decides whether to make the move to St James’ Park.

Pardew said this week that he believed Erdinc would move to Newcastle, due to the English club attracting bigger crowds and setting bigger goals than Champions League-bound PSG.

And with limited time to wrap up a striker signing to replace former Newcastle forward Andy Carroll, who moved to Liverpool in January, Pardew is hoping to have a decision from Erdinc as soon as possible.

But after losing out to Swansea to snare Neil Taylor, Newcastle reportedly believe that if they are somewhat patient with Erdinc, he may make the decision to head to the Toon after all.

Erdinc said on the weekend that he would be happy to play in France, but Pardew set aside the comments, saying that until they receive formal word from the Turkey international, the club won’t believe what they hear in the papers.

“We have to be careful. Some of the things being quoted are not from him and we’ve got to cut through it,” Pardew said.

“It’s difficult to criticise the player because sometimes it’s the agent or someone else not getting what he wants.”
