Liverpool are blowing hot and cold over Aly Cissokho, as the club denies it is on the verge of a deal for the defender, according to the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old, who has spent his career in Portugal and France, was supposed to be leaving Lyon to join Liverpool in a £9.5 million deal.

However the latest reports pour cold water on the move which could see the speedy defender filling the left back vacancy at Anfield.

Glen Johnson looks set to test his wrong foot at the back if a deal cannot be reached with the Frenchman.

Fellow countryman Gaël Clichy was also poised to take the empty role, but opted to join Manchester City instead.

However Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish may well just be keeping his cards close to his chest. He was extremely cautious on the issue in a press conference during The Reds' tour of the Far East.

He said: “Hopefully we will do some more business before the window closes but I’m not going to sit here and give you names because that’s disrespectful.

“We are looking to bring other players in and that could mean we expect some to leave. That’s football. But we have a while to go yet and we’ll see what we can do.”
