Brazilian international Lucas' agent, claims that Manchester United made an approach for the midfielder last summer.
The 18-year-old Sao Paulo man, recently linked with Paris St Germain and went to the Copa America with Brazil earlier this month.
Such is his potential that according to his agent, Wagner Ribeiro, United and Bayern Munich haves expressed an interest.
"Lucas was approached earlier this year by Manchester United and Bayern Munich," Ribero said.
With Paul Scholes having now retired, the move for Lucas last summer comes as now surprises, given United's need top replace their talismanic midfielder.
However, the fee being linked with Lucas is reportedly around £72 million, a fee which if matched, would be the second highest transfer fee ever paid for a player.
