Crystal Palace are keen on bringing Peteborough forward Siriki Dembele to Selhurst Park this summer, as reported by Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has been in sparkling form in League One in 2020/21, netting 11 goals and providing 12 assists. His exploits have helped Peterborough gain promotion to the Championship.

It seemed that he could depart London Road back in January when he handed in a transfer request, but he has ended up seeing out the season at Posh.

Now, though, he appears to be ready to test himself at the highest level, and has been linked with Fulham and Rangers in recent times. Palace are another club in the mix for his signature, and may fancy their chances of landing the attacker given that Fulham are on the brink of being relegated from the Premier League.

With this in mind, it begs the question: would Dembele be a good signing for Palace?

GIVEMESPORT's Sam Brookes, Jonathan Gorrie, Christy Malyan and Joshua Cole give their thoughts below...

Sam Brookes

"He would be an excellent addition.

"Some may have concerns about him jumping up a couple of divisions, but Eberechi Eze has shown that it is possible to flourish in the Premier League after first making a breakthrough in a lower division.

"He has registered seven goal contributions this season for the Eagles, and Wilfried Zaha has managed 12, but when those two have had off-days, Palace often look somewhat out of ideas.

"This is where Dembele could come into play, as he would offer them another attacking outlet. Palace would have a formidable front three on their hands, and could aim for much more than just survival if they manage to snap up Dembele in the next transfer window."

Jonathan Gorrie

"Absolutely.

"Still, it's hard to see what Palace offer in the way of first-team football that Celtic can't, who GMS revealed last month are keen.

"Indeed, clearly the riches of the Premier League are tempting but, at Celtic, Dembele could surely command a starting berth on a much more regular basis in Glasgow and could potentially play in Europe, further raising his profile.

"Sadly, for the good of his career, Celtic look a better option.

"Given the changes expected at Palace this summer, joining now is surely a risk. At Celtic, Dembele would have a much stronger chance of success and, within a couple of years, could get an even bigger move back across the border."

Christy Malyan

"I'm all for giving Football League talent a chance in the top-flight and over the last few years we've seen plenty of examples where such players have made the step up. The likes of Jamie Vardy and Dan James have even shown that Football League products can mix it up at the very top of the Premier League table.

"But in the case of Siriki Dembele, I fear that it's just too big a leap. League One to the Premier League is a pretty large gap and even with 23 goal involvements to his name this season, it seems like a step too far for me.

"Perhaps in a normal summer he'd be worth the gamble at the right price for Palace, but the coming window looks set to be one of drastic changes at Selhurst Park with a host of players out of contract and Roy Hodgson's deal running out as well.

"With so many experienced Premier League players moving on, the idea of throwing in a 24-year-old from the Football League and hoping he can hit the ground running in the top-flight seems like a massive gamble for the Eagles. Perhaps Palace can make a couple of high risk, high reward signings this summer but the focus should be on ensuring the squad is good enough to stay in the top-flight at a bare minimum."

Joshua Cole

“Although Palace will need to bolster their squad this summer following what has been a rather underwhelming Premier League campaign, they ought to steer clear of signing Dembele from Peterborough.

“Whereas the winger has illustrated that he is more than capable of thriving at League One level by registering an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.32 in this division, he may not be ready to make the jump up to the top-flight at this stage of his career.

“Furthermore, when you consider that Palace can already call upon the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend, first-team opportunities may be limited for Dembele if he does opt to move to Selhurst Park.

“Therefore, it could be argued that it may be best for both parties if this deal doesn’t materialise as Palace could use the money made available to them to sign someone who is more proven at this level whilst Dembele could continue to feature on a regular basis for Peterborough.”
