Thibaut Courtois enjoyed a fantastic spell with Chelsea.

Considering the Belgian shot-stopper arrived at Stamford Bridge as a relative unknown in 2011, it's incredible to think that he was destined for Real Madrid by the time he departed seven years later.

Three fantastic seasons out on loan with Atletico Madrid announced Courtois' top-class status to the world and encouraged Jose Mourinho to reintroduce him as Petr Cech's successor in 2014/15.

Courtois' Chelsea career

Courtois displaced the Premier League icon effortlessly, ultimately encouraging him to move to Arsenal, while helping himself to the league title just a season after bagging the La Liga crown.

There were a few ups and downs along the way, it must be said, but Courtois ultimately waved goodbye to Chelsea with two Premier League crowns, two domestic cups and a Golden Glove.

That's a pretty good record on which to up sticks for Real Madrid and the Belgian even had time to show the Stamford Bridge faithful that he had a talent not often associated with goalkeepers.

Courtois and penalties

Oh yes, that's right, forget all the incredible saves and winners' medals for a second because we're talking about the fact that Courtois is actually a dab hand - or should we say foot? - at penalties.

Now, I know what you're thinking: wasn't the only penalty that Courtois officially took for Chelsea in the 2017 Community Shield? Ok, I'll give you that one and we all know how that ended...

But before Courtois was shovelling duffed efforts over the crossbar at Wembley Stadium, he was showing off his penalty expertise during a 2015 pre-season clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

After their International Champions Cup clash finished 1-1 in regulation time, the two European giants proceeded to play out a tense penalty shootout that eventually became locked at 5-5.

However, when future Chelsea player Thiago Silva missed PSG's seventh spot-kick of the night, Mourinho gave the go-ahead for Courtois to take the match-deciding penalty.

And for those of you still wondering how we could possibly justify Courtois as a good penalty taker after the Community Shield shenanigans, then, well, just watch his PSG rip-roarer down below:

A secret penalty expert

In fact, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Courtois was essentially taking it like a goal-kick by way of putting his whole body behind the ball as well as focusing on power, distance and height.

That is, of course, a little tongue-in-cheek because it's clear that Courtois had some decent shooting technique going on there, but the accidental goal-kick contrasts aren't half amusing to imagine.

And the only sad thing is that Courtois couldn't ensure that lightning struck twice when he took to the Community Shield and perhaps that's down to the fact that Cech already had him sussed out.

Imagine the scenes if the one thing Cech learned from playing second fiddle to Courtois for a season was how to psyche him out in a penalty shootout. You never know, dear reader, you never know.
