Conor McGregor caused a stir last month when he tweeted that he was thinking about buying Manchester United.

“Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?” He said.

Of course, you can never tell whether McGregor is being serious or not.

However, it appears that McGregor is at least interested in owning a football club.

McGregor was asked on Twitter to elaborate on the comments he made a few weeks ago.

He confirmed that he is interested in buying United, while also revealing he has held talks about buying shares in Celtic.

"A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest," he said, replying to a fan.

"To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond. I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage!

"Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club."

It's unknown when these talks were held but it's certainly possible that McGregor could get involved at Celtic in the future.

McGregor has spoken of his admiration for the Scottish giants before.

He has been pictured in a Celtic shirt and thanked the club's fans after they used a slogan of his one of their banners.

"Celtic Football Club STAND UP!!! This is what die hard support from your fans looks like! What a sight! What a team! Thank you all!" He wrote, replying to the banner.

McGregor has also named Kieran Tierney, former Celtic captain, as his favourite football player.

The Irishman has a net worth of £300m, meaning he certainly has the financial clout to buy some shares from Desmond.

It will be interesting to see whether McGregor follows through on his claims and purchases shares in the Scottish giants.
