Having ended their fantastic 2020/21 campaign on a positive note by beating Swansea City 2-0 at Vicarage Road last weekend, Watford will now be looking to prepare for their return to the Premier League.

Under the guidance of manager Xisco Munoz, the Hornets have been utterly transformed and thus could be in for a bright future if they opt to back the Spaniard during the upcoming transfer window.

Whilst Watford do have a host of players at their disposal who have a considerable amount of experience at Premier League, they are seemingly looking further afield when it comes to potential signings this summer.

According to The Sun, the Hornets have reportedly entered talks with River Plate forward Rafael Borre who could be available on a free transfer if he opts not to agree to fresh terms at El Monumental.

The Colombian international is also attracting interest from his former side Atletico Madrid due to his impressive displays in Argentina.

In the 15 games that he has played for River Plate this season, the forward has scored eight goals and has provided two assists for his team-mates.

As well as being tracked by Watford and Atletico, Borre is also being monitored by several unnamed Premier League sides.

The forward turned down a move to Brazilian side Palmeiras earlier this year after being offered a lucrative contract by the club.

With River Plate set to face arch-rivals Boca Juniors this weekend, it will be intriguing to see whether Borre can add to his current goal tally in this crunch clash.

GIVEMESPORT's Joshua Cole says...

Whilst Borre unquestionably possesses an abundance of talent, it may turn out to be somewhat of an error by Watford if they opt to sign him this summer.

Although this would be a cost-efficient signing by the Hornets, there is no guarantee that the forward will be able to adapt to life in the Premier League.

When you consider that Borre only managed to score four goals during his time on loan at Villarreal in the 2016/17 season, he may not be suited to European football.

Whereas Joao Pedro and Andre Gray were both able to illustrate glimpses of promise last season, it would be naïve to suggest that Watford do not need to add to their attacking options ahead of their return to the top-flight.

However, instead of taking a risk on Borre, the Hornets may find it more beneficial to focus on signing players who know exactly what it takes to deliver the goods in the Premier League.
