Manchester United will offer Bruno Fernandes a quick-fire new contract after the Europa League final on May 26th, according to the print edition of yesterday's The Sunday Sun (page 61).

What is the latest news involving Manchester United?

The report claims United bosses will sit down with the midfielder's representatives before this summer's delayed European Championships and are ready to offer the 26-year-old a bumper new deal.

Indeed, the new terms would reportedly take him up to £200k-per-week which - according to SpotRac - would put him behind only David De Gea, Paul Pogba and, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, Anthony Martial in terms of the club's highest earners.

For his part, Fernandes is said to want to see the likes of Pogba commit to the club for another few years too in an attempt to maintain the kind of upward trajectory United have enjoyed in the Premier League this season.

What are Bruno Fernades' current wages?

SpotRac data suggests the former Sporting Lisbon star is currently taking home around £180k-per-week, so the apparent new terms would represent a significant rise.

Under contract until the summer of 2025, United wouldn't appear to be under any pressure to sell their star man despite links with a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona, particularly given the financial problems both Spanish giants are currently enduring.

How many goals has Bruno Fernandes scored this season?

Fernandes' first full season at the club has been a rip-roaring success.

27 goals and 17 assists in 54 games across all competitions have proven an excellent return and, crucially, 10 of his strikes have directly resulted in United winning games.

In terms of overall impact, no player across the entirety of the Premier League has made as many key passes as the Portuguese (91, via FBREF) or has managed as many completed passes into the opposition penalty box (92).

How do Man United keep Fernandes happy?

The idea of Fernandes wanting to see other key players extend their stays at United in an effort to go and win something was also reported by Duncan Castles on a recent episode of The Transfer Window Podcast, so would appear to be a big factor in his thinking.

Perhaps luckily for him, Ian McGarry also claimed on the same podcast that United's Glazer family ownership are prepared to spend big in order to land a marquee name this summer as they attempt to appease some of the club's protesting supporters.

Harry Kane has been linked and, although it may not be enough to please fans given the level of vitriol directed towards the Americans, that kind of ambition might appeal to Fernandes.
