Edinson Cavani has been in sparkling form for Manchester United in recent weeks.

The Uruguayan contributed to six of the Red Devils' eight goals across the two legs of their successful Europa League semi-final tie against AS Roma.

Then last Sunday against Aston Villa in the Premier League, Cavani came off the bench and scored United's third goal in a 3-1 comeback win.

Cavani now has 15 goals to his name across all competitions for the club in 2020/21, a stellar return given that he's only played 1,859 minutes in his 35 appearances.

As a result of the 34-year-old's prolificacy, United fans have been desperate for the team to tie him down to a new contract.

Well, they have finally got their wish, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirming on Monday afternoon that Cavani has signed a new deal with the Red Devils until June 22.

An official announcement from United is expected in the next day or two.

The news will certainly be a major boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side going into what will be a decisive - and tiring - few weeks in their season.

United have three Premier League fixtures against Leicester, Liverpool and Fulham in the next eight days, before they travel to Gdansk to play Villarreal in the Europa League final on May 26th.

Cavani will no doubt play a significant part in all four matches, particularly in the fixture against Villarreal.

El Matador's European experience has proven vital to United's Europa League run, the striker scoring five goals and contributing three assists in his 247 minutes of action in the competition.

That's a pretty outrageous return and it's one of many reasons why United were eager to secure Cavani's stay at the club for another season.

Will the Uruguayan celebrate his new deal with a goal against Leicester at Old Trafford on Tuesday? The way he's playing right now, it's more than likely.
