United boosted in chase for £1m Arsenal striker target

Joel Campbell’s deal with Arsenal hasn’t been confirmed yet, leaving the door open for Manchester United to make a move for the young striker, according to ESPN Soccernet.

At only 19-years-old, Campbell has starred for Costa Rican side Puntarenas since spending a loan spell there from Saprissa.


Arsenal have long been linked with the youngster, though reports speculated that Manchester United might steal the march on their Barclays Premier League rivals, as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to rebuild his squad to leave a lasting legacy.

And while it appeared to be a done deal for Campbell to move to Arsenal, the starlet’s agent Joaquim Batica told ESPN that there was “nothing official” regarding reported a deal with Arsenal was completed.

Manchester United will no doubt be on alert at the news, with Campbell also starring for the Costa Rican national side.

Arsenal were thought to have agreed a fee of nearly £1 million for Campbell, which Manchester United will certainly be able to match Ferguson has faith in the wonderkid.
