Tottenham have reportedly identified Lyon full-back Michel Bastos as a contingency signing, should the north London club suddenly find themselves bereft in that department.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs would consider making their move for Bastos, should they lose Gareth Bale or Benoit Assou-Ekotto, with both players said to be attracting interest.

Although it would be difficult for Spurs to find a like-for-like replacement for Bale - should he leave White Hart Lane - Bastos would certainly provide Harry Redknapp with a versatile option on the left-flank.

The Brazil international is adept at playing in defence, or even a more advanced role, and has established himself as in important performer for Lyon.

Spurs, meanwhile, are also courting Bastos' international teammate Leandro Damiao, as Redknapp looks to bring in extra firepower this summer.

Reports have suggested that Spurs have already seen a bid for the Internacional striker rejected, while it has been claimed they may return with an improved offer.

Spurs have also been linked with Emmanuel Adebayor and Mirko Vucinic in their pursuit of goalscoring reinforcements.
