Chelsea and Barcelona are set to contest the Women’s Champions League final this weekend. Here’s everything you need to know about the biggest event in European football.
When will the UWCL final be held?
The Champion’s League final is scheduled to be held on Sunday 16th May. Kick-off is at 8pm BST.
Where will the UWCL final be held?
The final will be held at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg in Sweden. It has a capacity of 18,416, of which 15,000 are seated and 3,416 are standing.
Gamla Ullevi is used by a number of teams, including the Swedish women’s national team, as well as men’s sides IFK Göteborg and GAIS.
Current COVID-19 restrictions in Sweden means only eight fans are allowed to attend football matches. The Government may increase this to 500 spectators on May 17th, but this will come too late for the Champions League final. The Swedish Football Association is reportedly campaigning to have 500 fans at the match regardless.
Which teams will contest the UWCL final?
Chelsea and Barcelona are set to come up against each other in the final. Both teams go into the match off the back of winning their domestic leagues – the Women’s Super League and Primera Iberdrola.
The Blues will be competing in their first ever Champions League final, having beaten Benfica, Atlético Madrid, Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich on the way.
Barcelona have reached the final once before, losing to Lyon 4-1 in 2019. This year, they have overcome PSV Eindhoven, Fortuna Hjørring, Manchester City and PSG to make it to Gothenburg.

The game will be broadcast on BT Sport 2, with coverage set to start at 7:15pm.

Players to watch
Both Chelsea and Barcelona have teams packed with talent, guaranteeing an exciting and high-quality final.
Chelsea will be hoping attackers Sam Kerr and Fran Kirby will be on top form. Australia’s Kerr finished as the WSL top scorer this season, racking up 21 goals and seven assists. England’s Kirby was also prolific, managing 16 goals and 11 assists. The pair link up so well together it seems almost telepathic.
Captain Magda Eriksson is another key name for Chelsea. The importance of the centre-back to the side was shown when she was absent through injury, and the Blues have looked rock solid since her return.
Barcelona are also brimming with attacking talent, including Jenni Hermoso and Asisat Oshoala. Caroline Graham Hansen has played an integral role in her side’s incredible goalscoring record as well, racking up 12 assists in the league this season.
With such attacking prowess on both sides, perhaps the match will come down to who has the better goalkeeper. Chelsea’s Ann Katrin-Berger and Barcelona’s Sandra Paños are considered two of the top keepers in the world, and will both have to be in excellent form.
