Super-agent Jorge Mendes is planning to move Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo to Aston Villa this summer, Football Insider have revealed.

What's the latest news involving Nuno Espirito Santo?

Nuno has been at the helm at Molineux for the last four years, but his time at the club could be set to end if Mendes gets his way.

The Wolves boss has been linked with Tottenham recently, but is not viewed as a leading contender for the role, and it now seems that Mendes has earmarked Villa as a suitable alternative for his client to start afresh.

Why would Jorge Mendes want to move Nuno from Wolves to Villa?

It is understood that Mendes is aware that Wolves are unlikely to spend big in the upcoming transfer window, meaning that Nuno may not get much of an opportunity to improve his squad.

The team are in need of a rebuild after slipping to 12th place this season, having finished inside the top seven in their previous two campaigns. However, it seems that Nuno might not be supported by the club's hierarchy in getting Wolves back on track ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, Villa's owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris have lofty ambitions, and want to push for Champions League football in the next few years. It appears that they would provide Nuno with funds in the transfer market, which could make Villa a more appealing option than Wolves moving forwards.

What is Wolves' relationship with Gestifute?

Gestifute, the agency that Mendes leads, have struck up a strong working relationship with Wolves in recent years. Mendes represents a number of Portuguese players, and he has been able to bring them over to the Midlands, where many of them have flourished.

His clients include Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, all established internationals who have been regulars in Nuno's side since arriving in the Premier League.

He has also helped Wolves sign some fine, young Portuguese talent such as Pedro Neto. The 21-year-old has been one of the team's star performers this term, registering five goals and six assists in the top-flight.

Could this signal the end of the relationship if Nuno leaves Wolves?

Possibly. It would certainly be a bitter pill for Wolves to swallow.

They have worked closely with Mendes over the years, and it has been a successful partnership for both parties. Wolves have risen from the Championship to earning European football, whilst Mendes' clients have received greater exposure at the highest level.

Now, though, that relationship could be about to turn sour. If Mendes does play a major role in taking one of Wolves' most successful managers in recent years and moving them to a bitter rival in Villa, this could be the beginning of the end for Mendes' professional relationship with Wolves.

It would be difficult for Wolves to continue to trust Mendes, as he would be helping out a fellow Premier League side while simultaneously leaving the club in the lurch, searching for a new manager who would face the tough task of having to follow Nuno.

Wolves have been reportedly eyeing Rui Faria, Vitor Pereira and Bruno Lage as potential replacements, but none of the trio have managed in the Premier League before, suggesting that there is a risk that Nuno's hard work of the last four years could be undone.

It could also see the side's Portuguese-heavy contingent start to disperse, with Neves recently linked with a move away, meaning that Mendes' dealings could leave the team without a manager and with a weakened playing staff heading into 2021/22.
