Man Utd transfer news: £45m-rated star changes club's Jadon Sancho stance

Should Man Utd try and sign Jadon Sancho this summer?

Jadon Sancho has looked back to his magical best in recent weeks for Borussia Dortmund after returning from injury.

Last weekend, the Englishman scored two goals in a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig to keep the club firmly in the race for Champions League qualification.

Sancho has now netted 14 goals and contributed 18 assists in all competitions in 2020/21, the third season in a row that he’s surpassed 30 goal involvements.

The 20-year-old superstar’s numbers are mighty impressive and it’s no wonder that the Premier League’s top clubs continue to be linked with a move for him.

Manchester United were close to signing Sancho last summer and it was thought they would move for the Englishman again after the conclusion of this season.

However, that may not be the case now after the stellar performances of one player in recent weeks.

That man is Mason Greenwood, with the 19-year-old prodigy starring on the right-wing for United of late.

Greenwood in action

The £45m-rated starlet scored in the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa last Sunday and according to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have been so impressed with him that they no longer view Sancho as a “priority”.

Samuel Luckhurst writes: “United no longer deem Jadon Sancho a priority, partially because of Greenwood. He is their standout right ‘winger’ and offers better balance in the attack.”

It really has been quite a turnaround for the teenage sensation after a mixed start to the 2020/21 campaign.

In his first 23 Premier League appearances of the season, Greenwood only managed one goal and a solitary assist, a very poor return for a player of his quality.

But in his last five outings in the English top-flight with United, the England international has lived up to his glowing reputation by netting five goals and contributing one assist.

Greenwood celebrates

If he can continue that form, United certainly do not need to spend big on Sancho this summer.

However, they would still need to acquire a back-up to Greenwood, as the club do not currently possess enough depth in the right-wing position.
