Charlton have signed Andy Hughes on a free transfer from Scunthorpe.

The versatile 33-year-old, who can play at full-back or in midfield, has signed a two-year contract at The Valley, making him manager Chris Powell's 15th summer signing.

"It's a fantastic move for me," Hughes told the club's official website.

"The plan is to try to get out of this league as quickly as possible and I'm delighted the manager wants me to be a part of that."

Hughes made 18 starts for Scunthorpe last season after moving to Glanford Park in January from Leeds.

He began his career at Oldham and has also represented Notts County, Reading and Norwich.
