New Birmingham City signing Jonathan Spector says he can't wait to get started with the Blues, as manager Chris Hughton sets about the task of orchestrating an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League...just as he did with Newcastle!

The 25-year-old USA international put pen to paper on a two-year deal at St. Andrews to become the club's seventh signing of the summer ahead of the weekend's season opener - a Midlands derby at Derby County.

"I'm delighted to be here and to be part of this club," Spector told Blues TV.

"It's a big club and I've heard a lot of great things about the manager Chris Hughton.

"This is a good squad and I'm just looking forward to playing again and being part of this team. The first game is only a few days away now, so I'm working to get myself fit and in contention."

Birmingham go into 2011-12 with a realistic chance of promotion, despite losing the likes of Craig Gardner, Sebastian Larsson and Ben Foster.

Hughton has strengthened well and will be hoping for a strong start to the new campaign with fixtures against Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Watford to come before September.

The business end of the season draws to a close with away trips to Ipswich Town and Brighton, before the final day visit of fellow promotion-hopefuls Reading on Saturday 28 April.

Championship Winner - 12/1

Promotion - 4/1
