Newcastle target Erik Pieters is set to thrash out a deal to move to St James’ Park before the end of the weekend, according to the Journal.

Pieters has starred for PSV Eindhoven since signing for the club in 2008, and the left-back has attracted attention from numerous European clubs.

Newcastle have continually been connected to the star, with transfer speculation surrounding Jose Enrique leaving the club for Liverpool.

This week in particular, Enrique looks to be coming closer and closer to moving to Liverpool, and the left-back is reportedly having a medical at Merseyside today.

As a result of their top left-back leaving, Newcastle have had to step up their chase of Pieters, and with the side facing Arsenal this weekend, and only a few more weeks left in the transfer window, the Toon are hurrily making their moves.

The fee for Enrique is said to be in the vicinity of £6 million, which will add to a very nice budget for the Newcastle camp to spend on bringing Pieters in.

The club are still on the lookout for a striker, and Mike Ashley in particular is said to have stepped up Newcastle’s business in the transfer market this wek.
