Standard Liege is fielding interest from Porto for Spurs target Eliaquim Mangala, according to Talksport.
Mangala has starred for the Belgian outfit since he made the move from the youth side, and the youngster has been particularly attracting interest from European clubs this summer.
Tottenham have been rumoured to be preparing a bid for the 20-year-old, but Porto are hoping to steal the march on their English counterparts by putting forward a £5 million bid for Managala, hoping to get a £1 million discount on the £6 million price tag over the star.
"We are now waiting for a response from Porto who are studying the details of the deal,” Liege general director Pierre Francois said.
The news will come as a blow to Tottenham, who have only made one purchase this summer, of USA goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
Tottenham will no doubt be watching the situation closely, and with only a few weeks left in the transfer window, Spurs are reportedly hoping to have at least one more signing to bolster their squad.
