Scott Rendell's second-half penalty ensured Wycombe a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Colchester as both sides preserved their unbeaten starts.

The U's went close in the 12th minute when Wycombe goalkeeper Nikki Bull saved from Magnus Okuonghae and then denied Kayode Odejayi.

But Colchester took a 24th-minute lead through Ashley Vincent, who planted the ball high into the net from eight yards following Michael Rose's excellent cross.

Colchester goalkeeper Mark Cousins denied Gareth Ainsworth, but Ian Henderson's shot bounced back off the crossbar and Bull pushed away substitute Steven Gillespie's first-time effort.

Henderson hit the woodwork again 12 minutes into the second half after latching onto Odejayi's pass, but Wycombe levelled in the 61st minute through Rendell, who converted from the penalty spot after Scott Donnelly had been fouled by Michael Rose in the area.

Cousins denied Grant and then Donnelly hit a low shot just wide for Wycombe in stoppage-time.
