Reds striker learning from Dalglish

Andy Carroll does not need anyone to tell him about the level of pressure he is under to become a hit at Liverpool, but he is confident he can be just that under the tutelage of Kenny Dalglish.

The £35 million the Reds paid to bring Carroll to Anfield shows a significant amount of faith in the 22-year-old, but his short stay on Merseyside has been dampened by injury thus far.

This has meant Carroll has made just eight league appearances since his record-breaking January transfer, and he is now more hungry than ever to prove what an asset he can become.

In Dalglish, Carroll certainly has a reliable mentor, and the England striker is grateful for the wisdom imparted by the Reds boss, which will no doubt aid the youngster in his quest to become a Kop legend.

"Kenny is a great manager and it is great to know that he has given me all his backing," he told the official Liverpool website. "I have just got to give it all back to him, really. In training he is giving me little pointers here, there and everywhere.

"Obviously I need to listen to him and put them into my game. It is nice to know that he has got faith in him and it is a big help."

Carroll's progress will clearly be enabled if he can remain injury free, and he says a full pre-season has left him feeling sharp, as well as providing him with a taste for goals once more.

"I have had the pre-season which I needed and it has helped me get over all the niggles and injuries that I have had," he added. "I was injured a long time, so it was nice to play a few games and get my fitness up, as well as getting a few goals.

"I'm just looking forward to the rest of the season and keeping myself fit. Now it is a case of pushing forward. I have got to show what I can do.

"It is a big stage and I love playing for this club. Now I have got to do what I did to get myself here and I am out to prove that I can do it here."
