Journalist Kristof Terreur has suggested Tottenham could have a significant transfer budget for the summer window. 

What has Terreur said about Tottenham's transfer budget?

Antonio Conte has now been ruled out as Tottenham's next manager, but journalist Terreur has suggested whoever gets the job will be handed a sizeable transfer budget this summer.

Terreur made this claim on The Football Terrace, stating on Thursday: “I was only told a few weeks ago by some agent when other managers were linked that they have some money, although you don’t expect them to have the money, but that they wanted to invest in the team."

Is this a surprising claim from Terreur?

It is somewhat.

In light of the ongoing global crisis, Tottenham took out a £175m loan from the Bank of England last year, while they still have £823m worth of debt thanks to the cost of building their new stadium which they only moved into two years ago.

With this in mind, it appeared likely that Spurs' next manager would receive a limited transfer budget, which is what has been reportedly recently, but Terreur seems to think that won't be the case.

Some encouraging news for Tottenham fans?

It hasn't been a great prelude to the summer transfer window for Tottenham. In addition to star striker Harry Kane reportedly wanting to leave the club, the north Londoners have struggled to find a viable candidate for the vacant manager's position. 

Interest in Erik Ten Hag, Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers has proved fruitless, while PSG appear reluctant to part with Mauricio Pochettino. 

Nonetheless, a hefty transfer budget will certainly aid Spurs' cause in trying to find a new manager of sufficient quality.

Having finished seventh this season, it's clear Tottenham's squad requires strengthening, but that money will also help the club's next manager make his own mark on the starting XI with signings of his choosing. 

That being said, Daniel Levy needs to act quickly here. The longer the manager search goes on, the less time Spurs will have to make the signings they need this summer.
