Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini’s appetite for top quality signings looks set to continue, as he eyes up Daniele De Rossi.
Despite agreeing a fee for Samir Nasri from Arsenal, the Blues manager is expressing an interest in the Italian midfielder, who has one year left on his contract at Serie A club Roma.
Mancini has a surplus of wide players, but pointed out that in the centre of the park, there was still room for expansion.
He said: “I need something else in midfield because we have limited options.
"I have Barry, De Jong, Milner and Toure - but if you consider the number of games in the league, the Champions League and the FA Cup that is not enough.
"Daniele De Rossi would be absolutely perfect for this team and I rate him as one of the best midfielders in the world.”
But despite the high compliments, the Manchester City boss didn’t expect a deal to be made any time soon.
"But I also have the suspicion that he will stay in Rome his entire career, just like Francesco Totti has done,” he concluded.
