Tottenham Hotspur midfield target Lassana Diarra has denied a deal has been agreed to move to north London.

The French international has been heavily linked with a Barclays Premier League move this summer, and Spanish publication Marca claimed a €12 million fee had been agreed for the player to join Spurs.

However, the Real Madrid defensive midfielder denied the claims in AS, stating that a deal had not been done, and that he thinks he'll be staying in Spain.

“Information about my departure is a lie. There is no agreement with Tottenham Hotspur and I don’t think there will be," the player is reported to have said.

The news will come as a blow to Harry Redknapp, who has been linked with a handful of players in the position this summer as he looks to strengthen at White Hart Lane.

Scott Parker is also thought to be high on the Spurs radar, but with less than a week remaining in the transfer window, the north Londoners will have to move quickly to secure a player in the position.

Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be pursuing a striker, with Emmanuel Adebayor on the verge of joining the club.

Redknapp also confirmed that Spurs are keen on Joe Cole, whilst SkySports claim winger Iago Falque is close to joining from Juventus on loan.
