Europa League playoff second-leg

Stoke City will be without suspended duo Robert Huth and Matthew Etherington who both picked up their second yellow cards of the competition in the first leg.

Jermaine Pennant and Rory Delap will be assessed before kick-off, with both midfielders carrying knocks.

Upson excited by European challenge

Matthew Upson is preparing to make his home debut for Stoke on what could be one of the most famous nights at the Britannia Stadium.

The Potters are just 90 minutes away from a spot in the group stages of the Europa League, having triumphed 1-0 over Swiss outfit FC Thun in the first leg of their playoff.

And, with Robert Huth suspended, Upson has the opportunity to quickly win the hearts of the Britannia faithful with a solid display at the back tonight.

"This is a great opportunity for us to progress further in the competition, but it's important that we turn up with the right attitude," said the former West Ham captain.

"I am confident that if we apply ourselves properly, we're capable of getting the right result."

He added: "It would be fantastic for the Club and the supporters if we had more European nights at the Britannia Stadium because there is the prospect of facing some big clubs at that stage of the competition and that would be great for the status of the Club."

"The players also want that desperately too. We all want to experience different things and improve ourselves, so this would be a new challenge."
