Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has staked his claim on winger Florent Malouda, stating the Blues cannot afford to let a player of his ability leave the club.

The 31-year-old, who scored a vital goal in Chelsea’s first win of this season's Barclays Premier League campaign, has been gaining much interest from Serie A club Juventus.

Despite the arrival of a Spanish winger Juan Mata, Villas-Boas put the Frenchman on a pedestal next to the new boy and insists the Blues do not want to lose the French international.

He said: "As we are speaking about the number of goals and assists that Mata has made at Valencia, let's speak about the number that Malouda has made for Chelsea.

"We can't let ourselves sell talent of this quality."

Juventus have been known to take on players as they approach their twilight years, and despite Malouda reaching 31 in June, he shows no sign of slowing down.

But back in May, Malouda made his intentions clear by requesting a new contract, adding: "I would like it to be clear for everyone. I am aiming to end my career at Chelsea."
