Manchester United defender Nemanja VIdic is a target for Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, The Sun claims, with a bid for the Serbia international said to be imminent.

The club have already mapped out some ambitious intentions for the Russian Premier League, signing Samuel Eto’o for an estimated £300,000 a week.

And now Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimou is targeting a top-class defender, and believes Vidic would make the perfect addition to a side that wants to challenge for trophies in both Russia and Europe.

Ferguson is reportedly hoping that United resolve to keep the captain, who has made 235 appearances for the club since signing with United from Spartack Moscow in 2006.

The bid for Vidic is said to be in the region of £25 million, and will include a wage and bonuses that may tempt the 29-year-old to finish his career with a large bank balance.

The paper claims that Ferguson is ‘sweating’ over the possibility of a bid for the defender, and will do all he can to keep Vidic at Manchester United.
