After a humiliating 8-2 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday, Arsenal are set to spend big before the transfer window closes.

Reports today suggest Arsene Wenger is close to bringing both left back Andre Santos and centre back Per Mertesacker to the Emirates.

The Gunners have confirmed that Park Chu-Young has joined the club, while rumours persist that inquiries have been made for Yossi Benayoun.


Gary Cahill remains on Wenger’s radar, despite Bolton’s angry rejection of a £6 million bid last week, as the manager looks to rebuild his squad.

Tottenham are another team set to be busy in the transfer market before the window slams shut at 11pm on Wednesday night.
