Fulham have secured Czech defender Zdenek Grygera as they push on towards the transfer deadline.

A statement on the Fulham website said: “Fulham Football Club is delighted to confirm the free transfer signing of defender Zdenek Grygera on a one-year deal with an option for a further year.”

The 31-year-old joins Craven Cottage on a free transfer from Juventus, where he spent four seasons at the back.

Despite never playing in the Barclays Premier League, he brings a wealth of European experience to the club having played for Ajax and Sparta Prague as well as the Serie A club in his career.

He has also made 52 caps for the Czech Republic performing in two European Championships and the 2006 World Cup.

Grygera joins Fulham towards the end of his career, but is delighted to have fulfilled a career long dream.

He said: “I am delighted to have completed my transfer to Fulham Football Club today. It has always been an ambition for me to play in the Premier League and I am looking forward to an exciting new chapter in my career with Fulham.”

Grygera played against Fulham in March 2010 when the Cottagers thrashed Juventus 4-1 in the Europa League, but despite the scoreline his defending attributes impressed the west London club.
