Arsenal have reportedly tabled a late bid to bring Mikel Arteta to the Emirates.

Sky Sports' Spanish correspondent Guillem Balaque is reporting that the two clubs have opened discussions over a move, with the Daily Mirror claiming a £10 million Gunners bid has been placed on the Everton table.

Everton fan sites are even suggesting the player is being allowed to negotiate personal terms as the two clubs discuss the deal, with only hours remaining until tonight's 11pm deadline.

The move would be a dramatic twist on a day that's seen Arsenal already bring Per Mertesacker to the club, joining Andre Santos and Park Chu-Young as late signings in the window.

Wenger is searching for a creative spark following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, and with BBC journalist Ian Dennis claiming Yossi Benayoun is also heading to Arsenal for a medical, it could be a dramatic end to the day for the club.

The Frenchman is out of the country on a coaching course in Switzerland though, according to the Daily Mail, leaving assistant Pat Rice and fellow members of the Arsenal hierarchy in charge of closing the deals.
