New Blackburn signing Scott Dann is keen to make up for lost time having missed half a season during which he had to watch former club Birmingham get relegated.
The 24-year-old, signed for £6million which could rise with add-ons, joins a Rovers side next-to-bottom of the table without a point after three matches of the Barclays Premier League but insists he is not worried by critics who are already writing off their chances.
"I heard of Blackburn's interest a couple of days ago and it has all happened quickly and I was delighted to get it all sorted," said Dann. "From a personal point of view I would have liked it to have been done sooner so I could have got straight in with my new team-mates but it hasn't worked out that way."
He added: "But I was looking forward to coming into training today. I got injured in January, missed the Carling Cup final and couldn't play for the rest of the season.
"I've been fit all through the summer and I've had a full pre-season but missing so many games is frustrating. I need to play and I'm not happy unless there are games so I am delighted I am now playing for Blackburn.
"It wasn't an option for me to stay in the Championship, I needed a new challenge."
Dann is reunited with Kean, who was assistant manager at Coventry the same time the defender was there between 2008 and 2009, and he is confident things are set to improve for the club after three straight defeats.
"It is always nice to get as many points as you can as early as you can but we've only played three games," he added. "I watched the match on Saturday against Everton (a 1-0 defeat in which Rovers missed two penalties) and if that is anything to go by then we will have no problem."
Dann's fellow deadline day signing was Everton striker Ayegbeni Yakubu, who signed a three-year deal after Rovers paid a fee believed to be about £1million to the Toffees.
"For me to be here is great," said the 28-year-old Nigerian. "I know I will have to fight for my place as they have some quality players here."
