Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed David Nugent`s hamstring injury will keep the Leicester striker sidelined for "four or five weeks".
Nugent sustained the injury during the opening stages of the 3-2 home win over Southampton last weekend and had to be replaced by teenager Jeff Schlupp after just seven minutes.
The 31-year-old looks set to miss most of Leicester's September schedule, which includes trips to Barnsley, Cardiff and Middlesbrough plus a home game against Brighton.
"It's disappointing but it looks like he will be out for four or five weeks," Eriksson told the media on Thursday. "It is not good news."
Nugent joined from Portsmouth in the summer and has scored twice in his first five starts for the club.
Eriksson moved to bolster his attacking ranks on transfer deadline day with the signing of Jermaine Beckford from Everton for an undisclosed fee.
