Walsall will again assess the fitness of striker Jon Macken ahead of the visit of Brentford.

Macken (ankle) joined in training on Thursday morning having missed both last Saturday`s 2-0 victory at Bournemouth and Tuesday`s Johnstone`s Paint Trophy success over Shrewsbury.

The former Preston, Manchester City and Barnsley forward, who turns 34 next week, will continue to be monitored ahead of the Bees` visit.

Will Grigg misses out for the second successive match due to his international commitments with Northern Ireland`s Under-21 squad.

Goalkeeper Jimmy Walker returned to the bench for the midweek cup victory over the Shrews after his partner gave birth and he will battle it out with David Grof, who has stepped in admirably for the past two victories, for the number one spot.

Brentford are faced with an injury crisis ahead of the trip.

Striker Clayton Donaldson, winger Sam Saunders and defenders Shaleum Logan and Leon Legge are all in the treatment room.

Donaldson is struggling to shake off a groin injury and Saunders will be out for several weeks with a knee ligament problem.

Full-back Logan is missing with ankle ligament damage and centre-half Legge suffered a hamstring injury last weekend.

The news comes as a blow to boss Uwe Rosler, who was already without midfielder Toumani Diagouraga (knee) and winger Kirk Hudson (hip) due to long-term injuries.

Rosler will also be missing on-loan Celtic midfielder Niall McGinn, who is on international duty with the Northern Ireland squad.
