City to spoil United party

This season represents the best opportunity Manchester City have had to better the achievements of Manchester United for a number of years.

City lifted the FA Cup last term, but look to be genuine title contenders this time around, and have begun the new campaign in impressive fashion.

Roberto Macini's side have scored 12 and conceded only three in so far, and were in unstoppable mood last Sunday as they thrashed Tottenham 5-1 at White Hart Lane.

And, according to Pablo Zabaleta, City will provide their local rivals with the sternest examination they have had for some time - with both sides chasing Barclays Premier League glory.

"United have always been the party-poopers for us," said the defender. They are always one step ahead of us. But this time we are ready for the challenge. We will give the toughest competition to them and the other teams as well.

"The bigger clubs have been spending a huge amount of money for the players. We too fall in the same league.

"We are confident, and upbeat, that we will win some major trophies this season."

Meanwhile, following last weekend's north London demolition, Spurs centre-back Younes Kaboul is of the opinion that City have the ability to go an entire season unbeaten - just like Arsenal did six years ago.

"City can be a great success," he told L'Equipe. "I could even imagine them achieving the same run as Arsenal, when the Gunners were champions and remained undefeated all season long.

"Indeed, I could bet some money on that team for the title."
