Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has set his transfer sights on midfielder Steven Davis.

The Gers held on to the Northern Ireland international despite a reported deadline day move from the Villains, with Ally McCoist keen to keep his best players at Ibrox.

However, the Daily Mirror reports Aston Villa will again look to tempt the 26-year-old back to Villa Park, presumably in January.

Davis graduated through the academy ranks with the Villains, making his senior debut for the club in 2004.

After three senior years with Aston Villa, Davis left for Fulham, and the following season moved to the SPL with Rangers.

A success in Scotland, Davis won the SPFA Player of the Year in 2010, and was an integral part of the Gers title win last season.

The Scottish side will be keen to keep hold of one of their prized assets, but McLeish will be keen to lure his compatriot back to the Midlands and Aston Villa.
