Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson is delighted to see Scott Parker join the club after having seen the midfielder up close while playing for England.

Parker joined the club on deadline day from West Ham United, a move made inevitable by the Hammers' relegation from the Barclays Premier League last season.

The 30-year-old joins a midfield which contains the like of Luka Modric and Tom Huddlestone, and Dawson says Parker has all the attributes to make an impression at White Hart Lane.

"We're all delighted to see Scott Parker join the club, a great signing for us," he said.

"Scott's a top-class player, a winner. I played with him for England at Wales last March and have played against him on many occasions.

"His strengths are that he gets his foot in, tries to break up play and gets your team playing.

"He gives everything every time he goes on the pitch. He's certainly a player you want on your team, rather than playing against him and I'm sure he'll be big signing for Tottenham."

Dawson missed on out selection for England's Euro 2012 double header against Bulgaria and Wales, and while the defender was frustrated to be left out in the cold he's used the time to get some extra preparation in ahead of the club's trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"I'm disappointed I wasn't there, of course," Dawson added. "It always a great honour to play for your country but I'm not there and that's football.

"We worked hard last week, had the weekend off and now we're back in and preparing for Wolves. We've done a bit of running, nothing too major - none of those figure-of-eight runs we did in pre-season, that's for sure."
