Arsenal midfield target Ricardo Montolivo is of interest to a number of clubs, according to the player's agent.

The claims come just a day after the Gunners were being linked with a January move for the 26-year-old, whose contract expires with Fiorentina next summer.

Whilst a handful of clubs across Europe are thought to be keen on the player alongside Arsenal, agent Giovanni Branchini insists negotiations have not stalled with the Viola, and a new contract could easily be on the cards.

"There are clubs interested in the player, this is normal. His contract in Italy ends in June and we do not have any plans to meet with the Fiorentina management," Branchini told Calciomercato

"But we are calm and dialogue is not broken with the club. Throughout the year we will find a solution that is good for both parties."

Arsenal made moves in the closing stages of the summer transfer window to secure the services of midfielders, with Mikel Arteta joining for a reported £10 million and Yossi Benayoun making the switch to the Emirates on loan.

However, the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri means Arsene Wenger hasn't added depth in the position, but simply replaced the former Arsenal stars.

With the Italian international playmaker's value set to be at a low in January, the opportunity could arise for Wenger to strike, and the Arsenal boss is clearly considering a move after sending scouts to watch the player in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia on Tuesday night .
