Wilson beaming after Blades victory

Manager Danny Wilson was happy to see his Sheffield United side come from behind to extend their unbeaten start to the season to seven games in a 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe.

Striker Chris Dagnall fired Scunthorpe into the lead on the stroke of half-time with a brilliant solo effort, despite Andy Barcham receiving a red card for a rash tackle on Michael Doyle after 25 minutes. The Iron held out until the 13 minutes from time when a close-range overhead kick from substitute Ched Evans levelled matters.

"We can't be too disappointed to come away from home and get a point," said Wilson. "But the way the game panned out in the second half I did think we could have forced it a bit more."

He added: "We had a lot of pressure but too many times our final ball wasn't good enough. I didn't see the incident which led to their player being sent off but the fourth official said it was for a dangerous challenge.

"I did see the goal that Dagnall scored to put Scunthorpe in front and I'm sure he will think of it as one of his best but from our point of view it was a woeful one to concede.

"In the second half Scunthorpe battened down the hatches and defended for their lives."

Scunthorpe are still searching for their first league win of the season after five draws now in seven games, but manager Alan Knill is remaining upbeat.

"I think this was a great result for us," he insisted. "Most people will regard Sheffield United as the best team in this division. But in the first half I thought we looked like the best team in this division.

"Our passing and movement was excellent. It was a great goal by Chris Dagnall and I feel we should have been more in front at half-time. But for the second successive game we have been reduced to 10 men before the interval and it has hurt us. Maybe I am just getting old but players didn't get sent off for that sort of tackle in my day.

"Their player was not injured and was quickly back up and running around again. I feel we are getting better as a team every game we play and I`m certain we will soon get that first win under our belts that we are looking for."
