QPR manager Neil Warnock believes Joey Barton epitomises the exciting future at Loftus Road and has the ability to play at a top-four club with aplomb.

The 28-year-old became the first signing after Tony Fernandes' recent takeover of the club and penned a four-year deal with QPR.

"He took on board everything we were (telling) him about what the future is, what we thought of the timing of him coming and also what the chairman wants to do with the club," said Warnock. "I think it is an exciting project and you have to walk before you can run and that is what the club is trying to do."

He added: "I thought London might just tempt Joey.

"I know he is very articulate with his tweets and I know he likes museums and oil paintings so I thought it might just tempt him and his partner.

"I think she wanted to come down as well so that was always the thought at the back (of my mind).

"Listen, everybody always talks about Joey's baggage and I think if you look at myself, we have all said and done things in the past that we probably regret later on.

"But if you look at what Joey has got to offer, if he didn't have a little bit of baggage then I am sure Queens Park Rangers couldn't be signing him.

"I think he would be at a top-four club without a shadow of a doubt.

"You can't tell me he wouldn't enhance at least three of the top four clubs because I think he would."
