Reports in Spain suggest that Arsenal are lining up a move for Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero according to talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old playmaker started just eight games in La Liga last season, having fallen out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho, and has been heavily linked with a move away from Spain.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger strengthened his midfield ranks with the signing of Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium on deadline day following the sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri earlier this summer.

Granero came through the ranks at Real, but was sold to Getafe in 2007 after failing to make the breakthrough to the first-team. However, after two impressive seasons away from the Bernabeu, Madrid exercised their £3.5million buy-back option so he could return to the Spanish captial.

But after struggling to find his form again over the past 12 months, radio station Cadena Ser believe that Arsenal have made initial enquiries about signing the player from Los Blancos.

With two years remaining on his contract, which includes a £50million minimum-fee release clause, the Gunners will look to capitalise on Real's desire to sell Granero, and hope to bring him to north London in a considerably cut-price deal.
