Szczesny hoping for last laugh

Wojciech Szczesny is determined to gain revenge when Arsenal travel to Germany for their UEFA Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund tonight.

The 21-year-old stopper found himself being ridiculed by his international teammates after conceding eight goals against Manchester United a fortnight ago, but sees tonight's game - where he faces some of his Polish compatriots - as a perfect opportunity to prove a point.

Dortmund trio Lukasz Piszczek, Robert Lewandowski, and Jakub Blaszczykowski are all guilty of giving the young keeper plenty of stick while on Poland duty in the recent internationals, so Szczesny says he has added incentive to perform well.

"There has been a little bit [of stick], I'm not going to lie," he confirmed. "I think two of them will be playing on Tuesday and the one who was the loudest, Jakub, will be on the bench.

"They've been taking the mickey out of the 8-2 defeat but they can't get into my head. I will be focused.

"I hope after the game I will be the one who comes out on top with the banter."

Arsenal have made a slow start to the 2011-12 campaign, but having picked up their first win of the season in the Barclays Premier League against Swansea on Saturday, Szczesny is confident the only way is up for the Gunners from here.

"I'm confident we can achieve a top-four finish and I'm also confident that, if we stick together and do the right things, we will be title contenders."
