Arsenal and Fiorentina are locked in a battle to sign Padova's teenage sensation Ousmane Drame, reports talkSPORT.

The 19-year-old midfielder is earning rave reviews in Italy after a string of sterling performances in Serie B this season, attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe.

However the Gunners are believed to be leading the race for Drame's signature, but face strong competition from the Serie A outfit.

It is understood that Arsene Wenger sent Arsenal scouts to run the rule over the talented youngster in both of Padova's previous two games, while Fiorentina are said to be tracking his development from a distance.

Padova are determined to keep hold of Drame, but are realistic enough to know that interest from the likes of Arsenal and Fiorentina could turn the player's head.

After the Gunners completed the signing of five players on transfer deadline day, thoughts have already turned to potential targets when the window reopens in January, and Drame could be one prioritised for an Emirates Stadium switch.
