QPR defender Anton Ferdinand has revealed that he chose to move to the emerging west London club over another high earning offer that would have seen the 26-year-old playing top flight football in Ukraine.

Ferdinand almost took the path to FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, who placed fourth in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, but chose to join the Hoops as they arrived in the Barclays Premier League for the first time in 15 years.

The Peckham born defender stated that the decision was born out of prioritising football over money.

He said: "The offer from Ukraine came in first and it didn't excite me - I'm not someone who goes somewhere because the money was right.

"I'm all about my football and if you do well in football, the money comes to you.”

Ferdinand joined QPR days after Tony Fernandes swooped in as the new chairman, investing in important transfers for the club that has faced its fair share of financial worries since relegation in 1996.

The former Sunderland defender joined alongside the likes of Shaun Wright Phillips, Luke Young, Armand Traore and Joey Barton, who all had a run out against Newcastle, holding the north east club to a 0 – 0 draw.
