The 20-year-old is another product of Uruguay's esteemed youth set-up, and has been attracting interest after a series of impressive performances in Serie A since moving to the Rossoblu last summer.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has already followed up his signing of South American sensation Luis Suarez with the addition of fellow compatriot Sebastian Coates – who arrived at Anfield before the close of the recent transfer window.

Liverpool have indicated they would be willing to pay 10million euros to bring Ramirez to Merseyside in January, but they may face competition for his signature from Manchester United who are also said to be tracking the talented playmaker.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been credited with an interest and could try and lure him to Old Trafford, but it is widely anticipated that Liverpool remain in the driving seat with the advantage of being able to offer Ramirez the chance to link up with two international teammates in Coates and Suarez

Bologna are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal in Italy, but are realistic to know that any bids from Liverpool are Manchester United for Ramirez’s services in January, are likely to be too good for the player or the club to turn down.
