Stewart Robson says Arsenal have to work harder in defence if they are to finish in the top four this season.

The Gunners crashed to another defeat on Saturday, as Blackburn Rovers won their first Barclays Premier League game of the season.

And former Arsenal midfielder Robson believes that after another deluge of goals were conceded, Arsene Wenger needs to work on his back four to ensure the club don't miss out on the Champions League next season.

“Arsene Wenger has got to take a long, hard look at himself for a longer period than just this season,” Robson said. “The last four or five years people have seen what's going wrong and it looks at times that Arsene Wenger won’t admit things are going wrong.

“When they were five points clear at the top of the league and Eduardo had his injury at Birmingham, that was the time when Arsenal could have won the league.

“The players follow his manner. When he is upbeat and smiling and confident the players show that on the field. When he looks under pressure the players take that onto the pitch and that is something he has to look at.

“He has got to somehow motivate the players, he has got to get them to work harder defensively and if he can do that, Arsenal have got every chance of being in the top four, if he doesn’t do that Arsenal will be lucky to get in the top six.”
